phonegap 2.3.0 sucks big time

Posted: January 28, 2013 in javascript, mobile, phonegap

the first problem I had was using the new phonegap 2.3.0 and understanding the installation process and i have say it was a bitch.

I understand that adobe bought phonegap and that changes must be made, but i didn’t expect this.

I read the  Getting started guide for this version. At first it wasn’t so hard and i followed the instructions. I had to install ant.

Installing ant means going to the download page, copy the extract directory placing it under C:\ and declaring it under PATH in the Environment setting.

Main problems while installing: fixing Environment variables stuff. make sure you have

%ANDROID_HOME%

%JAVA_HOME%

%ANT_HOME%

pointed to the main directory (not the bin directories)

later I got this mean error while using the create command from the getting started guide.

Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.8
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

X:\create.js(38, 5) Microsoft JScript runtime error: ‘length’ is null or not an
object

this happened because I used SUBSTd drive, virtual drive to point to my real extracted phonegap dir (\phonegap-2.3.0\phonegap-2.3.0\lib\android\bin). so beware!! just go to the real location under c:\ or something, don’t use virtual…

I hope next releases will be automatic…

didn’t u hear about WIZARDs??????
